JOB SUMMARY:      Possess a complete understanding of the manufacture and operation of the various Holland machines and control systems

Be able to troubleshoot non-functioning equipment and restore to full operating condition

Train customer’s personnel (hands-on & classroom)

Provide customer assistance via telephone, email or on-site service calls

                                    Possess a working knowledge of international FBW standards and various FBW track applications.


  • Work closely with customers and/or Holland technical personnel to improve equipment operating condition and quality
  • Act as primary contact to provide technical assistance via telephone, email or onsite service calls to support customer service requirements
  • Be able to locate and use various operation/maintenance manuals, drawings and schematics to troubleshoot improperly functioning electrical, hydraulic and mechanical systems of various machines and return to full operating condition.
  • Perform complex installation, start-up and commissioning of Holland equipment
  • Training of customer personnel in the proper operation and maintenance of Holland equipment
  • Training of customer personnel in the various applications of Holland equipment in conjunction with auxiliary track equipment and crew configurations to achieve maximum machine productivity
  • Guidance to customers in establishing proper machine settings to achieve flash butt weld certifications and machine approvals by railway authorities
  • Follow-up coordination of parts, documents, etc. resulting from service calls
  • Participate, support and prepare required technical training programs in coordination with Field Service Manager
  • International and domestic travel to customer worksites, workshops and related locations.  Travel time up to 70% of the year.
  • Required to be on call or ready for travel 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in case of emergencies
  • Follow and promote all Holland, railway and customer safety and operating practices and policies
  • Find OFI’s to improve equipment reliability and design, customer service response and satisfaction, and Field Service Department practices
  • Play a lead role in resolution of NCR’s, CAR’s, OFI’s and continuous improvement
  • Work closely with vendors, Engineering and Sales to resolve/improve equipment and technical problems/processes
  • Other duties that may be required to support the successful functioning of the Field Service Department


  • Able to stand, walk, bend and sit for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds during repair of equipment
  • Able to work varying shifts
  • Vision sufficient for operating in on-site conditions
  • Able to walk on uneven ground


  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions

  • Exposure to railroad operating conditions (PPE required)
  • Exposure to welding fumes and dusts


  • Minimum 5 years experience in assembly and/or field service position with mechanical, hydraulic and electrical knowledge in troubleshooting for various hydroelectric control systems and equipment
  • High School diploma or equivalent.  Technical college education or documented qualifications are desirable
  • Ability to understand and follow electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical drawings and schematics
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems from a distance with customer’s maintenance personnel
  • Working knowledge of the proper use of diagnostic instruments and measurement tools
  • Capability in the usage of basic hand tools and power tools (drills, grinders, etc.).
  • General computer & PLC programming knowledge
  • Possess and maintain a Passport and US driver’s license
  • Ability to comply with requirements for foreign country entry visas
  • Knowledge of various international Flash Butt Rail Welding standards
  • Possess an understanding of rail metallurgy & rail tests (Slow Bend test, Fatigue, Macro, Hardness Ultrasonic, Magnetic Particle, etc.)
  • Ability to interpret flash butt weld charts related to machine calibrations and settings and in the interrelationship of  machine settings and weld strength & performance
  • Understanding of the various FBW track applications, crew configurations, and usage of auxiliary track equipment to maximize machine and customer productivity
  • Must be able to pass all training and background checks required by Holland and Holland’s Customers (e-RAILSAFE, etc)
  • General knowledge of railroad operations, standards & track practices
  • Good safety awareness and behavior
  • Ability to work closely with customers, Holland employees and suppliers to accomplish timely start-ups, training or repair of equipment.
  • Ability to instill confidence with customers
  • Committed to customer service and meeting deadlines
  • Good written and oral communication skills
