To assist Field Supervisor with all functions related to providing quality rail welding services to the customers of Mobile Operations.


  • A Junior Welder Operator must be able to perform all Welder Trainee responsibilities
  • A Junior Welder Operator must be able to work in full compliance and procedures of the Holland Company Safety program to ensure a safe working environment
  • Must be knowledgeable of AREMA Specifications regarding weld geometry and be able to perform/understand the following:
  • Check finished welds
  • Use of a 36” straight edge & taper gauge
  • Crown of weld
  • Kink of weld
  • Vertical alignment
  • Horizontal alignment
  • Electrode contact area for burns
  • Sheared weld for gouging & pitting
  • Base offsets
  • Completed weld and rail for defects

Must be able to perform Preventative Maintenance practices

  • Calibrate equipment for daily operation
  • Understand the fundamental operations of the Hand Held
  • Assist unit Supervisor in completion of necessary daily paperwork
  • Must be able to set up control system to dry cycle operation& be capable of changing weld schedule programs for different sizes of rail
  • Must be capable of operating the Flash Butt welding machine to make quality welds that meet customer specifications including:
  • Vertical alignment of rail
  • Horizontal alignment of rail
  • Kink adjustment of welder
  • Crown adjustment of welder
  • Adjusting welder for base offsets
  • Adjusting shears on welder
  • Trained on oxygen-acetylene torch
  • Proper use of all required tools & equipment for the Junior Welder position


  • Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, squatting and work safely on rough uneven surfaces or terrain
  • Ability to lift & carry up to 50 pounds frequently
  • Vision must be sufficient for reading instrumentation& measuring devices
  • Ability to climb a steep ladder


  • Exposure on a regular basis to outdoor weather conditions


  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Pass a mandatory pre-employment drug screen, Railroad Orientation Programs, e-Rail Safe Back ground check, Fit for Duty testing
  • Must have a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License and Medical Certification
  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems
  • Good interpersonal skills in dealing with customer’s, employee’s management, & vendors
  • Safety completion of company training programs
  • Travel up to 100% includes ground and air travel


Wage Type:  Hourly Non Exempt
