Function and Scope:

This is a hands-on position with a primary focus on leading and executing testing in conjunction with the project team and project business owner.   This position will be responsible for performing all facets of quality assurance as directed by the Project Manager and/or the project Quality Assurance Lead.  The Senior Quality Assurance Specialist will have the technical knowledge to support the quality assurance aspects of all platforms, coding practices, and the software development lifecycle relative to the project.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create and execute test plans and scripts that will determine optimal application performance according to specifications
  • Analyze documentation and technical specifications to ensure that quality assurance activities allow applications to meet business requirements and systems goals, fulfill end-user requirements, and identify existing or potential issues
  • Provide risk assessment during project planning and development
  • Create and maintain test documentation and test plans, plus work with the project team to create a suite of test data to exercise data validation and actual ETL (extract, transform, load) functionality
  • Ensure that testing activities allow applications to meet business requirements and system goals, fulfill end-user requirements, and identify existing or potential issues
  • Create and execute test scripts that will determine optimal application performance according to specifications 
  • Understand and test all database processes to ensure the correctness of data flowing through each stage of any data warehouse/data mart based ETL process
  • Create and execute SQL queries to validate that actual test results match expected results
  • Identify and log defects if/when a test fails, and if necessary, use SQL to narrow down the root cause of the problem
  • Be responsible for ETL build validation process on an ongoing basis and for the validation of any additions/modifications to reports before release to production
  • Work closely with the project team to analyze, debug and resolve any issues
  • Effectively communicate test progress, test results, and other relevant information to project stakeholders and management
  • Enforce and monitor adherence to quality standards
  • Create and execute regression test scenarios
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in information technology, computer science, business administration, or a related field
  • Five + years of previous experience working within a quality assurance department or team charged with testing web-based software and database applications
  • Three + years direct experience in overseeing the design, development, and implementation of quality assurance standards for software/database testing
  • Strong knowledge of system testing best practices and methodologies
  • Proven data analysis, data verification, and problem-solving abilities
  • Detail-oriented, with excellent organizational skills and able to manage multiple issues simultaneously
  • Excellent diagnostic, problem-solving and debugging skills.
  • Results-oriented, product-focused, and an excellent ability to work with cross-functional teams.
  • Three + years of testing/development experience using SQL Server (2005 and 2008) with the following experience highly desired
    • Database design and database structures
    • Entity relationship diagram (ERD) knowledge
    • Data warehousing and data modeling
    • Strong knowledge of aspects of Data validation testing
    • Strong experience testing data exchanges with XML
    • Strong knowledge of aspects of ETL program testing
    • Experience writing and executing complex SQL queries using views/tables.
  • Experience with the following technologies highly desired:
    • ASP.NET MVC
    • .NET 4.0 Framework
    • SharePoint development
    • Site Core Development
  • Thorough understanding of platforms such as Windows 2003/Windows 7 and Internet Information Server.
  • Solid working knowledge of current Internet technologies, including .Net Framework, AJAX, and web services.
  • Exposure to and experience using automated data test tools
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws a plus

General Skills and Abilities:

  • Background experience with ETL and database development
  • Experience with the Altova Suite of products
  • Cognos or other business intelligence experience
  • Strong SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services)  development and testing experience
  • Experience testing mobile interfaces and responsive web design
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; strong interpersonal skills.
  • Self-directed and proactive; thinks beyond the immediate problem.
  • Flexibility, ability to change priorities quickly, and capacity to handle multiple tasks.
  • Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Experience in Healthcare IT or Support environment a plus
