Manufacturing Engineer

This key individual should possess a working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing concepts; cell manufacturing design and layout; one piece flow; CNC programming (Striker, FANUC, etc.). The successful candidate must have led or been a key participant in Lean events and have a BS degree in one of the following disciplines: Manufacturing Engineering; Industrial Technology; Mechanical Engineering. The candidate must have a minimum of three years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and execute solutions for improvements in safety, quality, productivity and costs.
  • Evaluate capital equipment investments and justify them.
  • Evaluate causes of manufacturing problems and assist in resolving such problems.
  • Design and prepare drawings of new equipment or modifications to existing equipment for improvement of safety.
  • Develop tooling for new processes and evaluate existing tooling with vendors. Assist in maintenance and improvement of such tooling.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation of existing and modified manufacturing processes.
  • Reduce product cost while improving product quality.
  • Provide engineering support to other departments as they require it.

Results/Accountabilities:

  • Ensure that new products are properly introduced and manufactured efficiently.
  • Ensure that existing product lines are maintained at specified levels.
  • Improve productivity, quality and safety.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, or Industrial Engineering with a minimum of three(3) years of related experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of material handling principles and equipment; lean manufacturing, parts manufacturing equipment and processes; automated and manual assembly processes; time and motion studies; tooling, jig and fixture design; engineering mechanics, drafting, electrics and electronics, hydraulics, pneumatics and control system principles and equipment.
  • For all new equipment in the Assembly and Parts Manufacturing areas: provides specifications, cost justifications, sourcing, purchase recommendations, testing, training and coordination of installation.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree (B.A) from four year college or university or three to seven years related experience and/or training, preferably in a manufacturing environment. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

 

Language Skills: Excellent communication skills, verbal and written. Must be able to write reports, business correspondence and procedures manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
