Partners In Health (PIH) is a nonprofit organization headquartered in Boston, MA, whose mission is to provide quality health care for the poor and marginalized in Haiti, Rwanda, Lesotho, Malawi, Peru, Mexico, Russia, Dominican Republic, and Navajo Nation. In addition, PIH has a growing network of affiliated organizations and initiatives in several other countries, including Nepal, Burundi, Mali, Liberia, and Togo. Through service delivery, training, advocacy and research, PIH works around the globe to bring the benefits of modern medical science to those most in need of it, to serve as an antidote to despair, and inspire others to do the same.

The PIH Office Volunteer Program is very competitive, attracting applicants with a broad range of education and experience, from high school students to seasoned professionals.  We weigh each application against our current needs and available resources.  Due to limited management capacity, we must be very selective in screening and placing volunteers, and we expect a high level of commitment, reliability and professionalism from the applicants that are accepted into the program.

Overall Responsibilities:

Volunteers are responsible for supporting the Operations Manager with basic administrative duties as well as assisting Partners In Health’s various departments with projects and assignments. Volunteers are responsible for maintaining daily and weekly inventory, and should be comfortable with answering and directing phone calls and welcoming visitors to the office. In addition to these administrative tasks, volunteers are expected to engage with specific PIH teams and help with long-term and short-term projects such as, but not limited to, research, writing and editing, organization and filing, and data entry. Previous experience or personal interest in any field or subject is appreciated and volunteers are encouraged to pursue projects that relate to their interests. The office needs detail-oriented volunteers; patience, flexibility and open-mindedness are mandatory for this position.


  • Patience, flexibility and attention to detail
  • Time commitment minimum of 15 hours per week for at least three months
  • Interest in public health, global health, social justice, international development, or related fields
  • Facility with MSOffice Suite, Adobe Creative Suite and other software helpful
