Senior Engineer Structural Support

Position Overview:


Perform engineering tasks in support of aircraft structural analysis (repairs, modifications, failure investigations) for fixed and/or rotary wing.

Key Areas of Responsibility:


This job may encompass some or all of the tasks below:

  • Perform/Check analysis using classical and finite element methods as required in a timely manner to an acceptable level of quality;
  • Liase as appropriate with other departments regarding possible design changes that may be required;
  • Track expenditures against estimates and ensures that the work is completed within the timeframe given;
  • Provide supervision, technical guidance and leadership to more junior section personnel and non-technical personnel, as directed.
  • Liase with the customer, IMP senior management and the various company departments as required to ensure airworthiness, cost effectiveness and compliance with contractual requirements.
  • Represent the company at technical meetings with the customers, the aircraft manufacturer or other outside agencies as required.
  • Prepare and/or assist in the preparation of formal Reports and other engineering deliverables;
  • Support development of analytical tools and software;
  • Assists in preparation of estimates and analysis plans;
  • Other duties as tasked/required.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Aeronautical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering
  • 7 to 10 years of aerospace experience
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation skills
  • Working level knowledge of the MS Office and MS Windows environments
  • Knowledge of the following will be considered an asset:

- Aircraft structures

- Engineering drawing systems specifically those from an aircraft manufacturer

- Static analysis, fatigue analysis

- Classical stress analysis and finite element modelling and analysis

- Experience or exposure to NASTRAN, and PATRAN

  • Eligible for membership in, or member in good standing of, the Association of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia (APENS) or equivalent.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment as required by the individual task;
  • Willingness and enthusiasm to learn;
  • Actively seek to remedy any deficiencies in performance;
  • Politely identifies areas that need improvement;
  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to IMP Occupational Health, Safety and Environment policies.  Continually focusing on your individual safety and the safety of others who may be affected by your work and to fully comply with all Federal Health and Safety Legislation.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement, Lean & 5S activities in your area.
  • Must be eligible to meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Canadian Government Security Clearances.
