PURPOSE OF JOB:

1901 Group is a fast growing, privately held firm that is seeking an energetic and dynamic individual that is capable of supporting the business development process from lead identification, capture management, to the development of winning proposals.  The successful candidate must have a proven ability to analyze the market to identify addressable opportunities; technical skills to support the configuration of Salesforce.com and Business Development SharePoint site to support the full lifecycle of business development activities; and proposal management skills to contribute in the management and development of winning proposals.

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Conduct market research to support the successful identification of new business development opportunities for 1901 Group.  This requires the analysis of federal market trends, publically available resources, Deltek, and industry data to identify new business opportunities that represent addressable market with the federal space.  Typical activities may include analyzing emerging and disruptive IT trends in the market associated with cloud computing, mobile data management, and managed services; budget trends and data available through Exhibit 53, Federal IT Dashboards, and agency forecasts; analysis of specific firms that represent a strategic target to capture existing work; and other research projects to identify and qualify a backlog of viable business development opportunities.  Will work with Senior 1901 Group management to brainstorm ideas that lead to individual research projects. Estimated effort is 20 – 30% of time.
  • Manage 1901 Group Salesforce.com pipeline management tool, through standard Salesforce.com configuration tools to develop pipeline metrics and reporting.  Additionally, configure and manage the Business Development SharePoint environment by establishing a standard taxonomy for proposal management; collection of 1901 Group intellectual property and knowledge management for reusable proposal content and artifacts; and development of a capture management site that can be used as the corporate repository for capture management.  Estimated effort is 20 – 30% of time
  • Support the development of 1901 Group responses for RFIs, RFQs, and RFPs.  This includes management of the proposal process to include development of proposal schedules; compliance matrixes; past performances; management plans, and other proposal artifacts.  Additionally, support the management of the capture process by leading various color reviews to ensure proposals being developed are being successfully managed through the process.  Lastly, provide editorial and formatting support for documents to ensure they are professional in appearance and grammatically correct.  Estimated effort is 30 – 40% of time.

 

 

Technical Responsibilities

 

SalesForce.com and SharePoint:

Ideally, the successful candidate will have prior working experience with Salesforce.com and SharePoint in a similar environment. Both tools have a wealth of information available to configure and customize and do not require any programming skills to accomplish the work needed.  However, a self starter is needed that can determine the most effective manner for continued process improvement to support 1901 Group BD and capture efforts.

 

KEY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

 

  • Must have the analytical skills to comb the market to identify new market opportunities that align with1901 Group core capabilities.  This requires an in-depth understanding of the federal IT market particularly as it relates to disruptive trends associated with cloud computing, BYOD, mobility, and managed services. 
  • Must be capable of taking direction at a macro level, however, must be able to independently conduct research and analysis taking into consideration trends that impact the competitive nature of the market, new opportunities based on disruptive trends, and budgetary impacts that require customers to thing outside of the box to create cost efficiencies and savings.
  • Must have proven ability to write and edit content used in support of proposal responses.  The level of writing required is generally the repurposing of existing content that needs to be modified to address the customer’s pain points.  Additionally, must be able to research and write past performances and other standard proposal artifacts commonly used throughout the proposal process.

 

Software/Technologies:

Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.  MS Project and Visio skills are desired, but not mandatory.  Must be capable of configuring/customizing/managing Salesforce.com for the company.  Training is available, however, prior work experience with SalesForce.com for Pipeline Management is a plus.   Must be capable of configuring the Business Development SharePoint site, primarily through native SharePoint functionality (document collections, web parts, lists) to create a workable site for BD proposal management, artifacts, and capture management

 

Operating Systems: Windows, Mac

Languages: Not required, however, being able to extend SalesForce and SharePoint through basic scripting and using tools provided is a plus.

 

 

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

3 to 5 years of related and progressive experience supporting Federal Business Development, Research, and Proposal Management 

 

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field.  Major(s) Business

Administration, Finance, Computer Science related field of study

 

Master’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field.  (preferred)
