Summary of Position:

Reporting directly to the Production Control Manager, the successful candidate will mainly be responsible for the estimation and technical planning aspects of the manufacturing process, but will also be involved in improving operational performance and quality, troubleshooting manufacturing issues, and reducing manufacturing costs. This position requires a candidate who has a solid technical ability, a diverse background in precision machining environments, and is capable to be a leader within the team. In this senior-level role, the incumbent will be a key player in shaping and strengthening the Production Control/Manufacturing team, by providing expertise and mentoring others.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and understand customer requirements (drawings, bills of materials, and specifications)
  • Review/analyze drawings and technical information for incoming work to ensure manufacturability and provide technical feedback for make/buy decisions
  • Determine accurate estimates for budget and cost control
  • Prepare accurate quotations and work plans for internal customers which include estimated hours, cost and lead time
  • Determine manufacturing processes for machined and fabricated components (e.g., milling, turning, grinding, heat treatment, welding and special processes for exotic materials, high strength steels, aluminum etc.)
  • Establish and develop methods, layouts and tooling
  • Liaise with Engineering leads and provide feedback to help reduce cost and improve quality through design (design for manufacturing)
  • Cross-train other department staff
  • Project manage small/medium sized projects, attend/present weekly reports at customer project status meetings
  • Assist in the design of jigs, fixtures and tooling required for manufacturing
  • Analyze and summarize manufacturing data to report trends and cost performance
  • Lead/participate in process development activities for Production Control department
  • Lead/participate in continuous improvement initiatives within the department and the machine shop related to capacity, productivity and efficiency
  • Design and implement strategies to improve manufacturing processes and maximize operational performance
  • Provide technical input for new equipment and technology to enhance output of existing product and increase capacity/capabilities for future work

 Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Engineering degree or Technician/Technologist college diploma (Mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering) with at least 10 years of experience working in a precision manufacturing environment
  • In addition, 5 plus years of experience in a role that required the estimation of machined components from raw material to finished product is highly preferred
  • Experience using manufacturing systems software/applications (ERP, MES, PLMs, etc.)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools and other software (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and SharePoint)
  • Strong project management, problem identification, and problem solving skills are required
  • Must be familiar with precision machining processes/equipment
  • Previous hands-on experience operating manual machine equipment (mills, lathes, grinders, etc.) are considered an asset
  • Previous hands-on experience programming/operating CNC equipment are considered an asset
  • Previous lean manufacturing/Six Sigma experience and/or certification are an asset
  • Strong leadership skills are an asset
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and have a solid understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (ASME Y14.5)
  • Superior problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to tactfully communicate with team members, internal customers and suppliers
  • Adaptability to work in a licensed nuclear facility environment
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment requiring multitasking, analytical and project management skills
  • Ability to evaluate and be decisive on available information, while considering the impact and consequences of decisions on others
  • Must be a team player with the ability to provide a leadership presence within the department
  • Strong customer focus, attention to quality and health and safety
  • Familiarity with company procedures, Quality Assurance (QA) programs, and the codes and standards that govern nuclear equipment manufacturing
  • Must be designated as a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW) or willing to be designated as a NEW
