The Assistant Director of Residential Life and Housing will assist the Director with all aspects related to residential education. The Assistant Director (AD) will be responsible for paraprofessional staff recruitment, training and development, student discipline, student learning and development through programming and other intentional activities, and enhancing the value of the residential experience. The Assistant Director (AD) will also supervise 3 full time Residence Hall Directors. The Assistant Director works closely with the Director of Residential Life and Housing as well as the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs to set and fulfill the goals of the department and to honor the mission of the University.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Live-in assigned residence hall apartment provided.
Supervise 3 professional Residence Hall Directors.
Act as department’s second in command, and perform duties of Director in his or her absence.
Participate in Emergency Duty Phone rotation.
Provide leadership for the Leadership Development (LD) functional team.
Responsible for the development and implementation of training programs for the Resident Assistants, Hall Attendants, EXCEL Mentors and Hall Councils.
Coordinate national Residence Hall Director search process as well as campus-wide Resident Assistant selection process.
Provide advisement and administration of the Resident Student Association (RSA) and Residence Hall Council programs including leadership development, conference attendance, special and educational programming, and all related purchasing concerns.
Serve as judicial officer in disciplinary incidents. This includes conducting administrative hearings, mediating conflicts, enforcing sanctions and conducting any necessary follow-up.
Act as liaison to critical campus support services such as Public Safety, Facilities Management, IT department, ELS program and other relevant offices.
Participate in department and division assessment and planning efforts.
Facilitate professional staff training.
Conduct research and evaluation projects, such as the annual Quality of Life Survey.
Demonstrate sensitivity to students, faculty and staff of varying racial, ethnic, religious, gender, cultural, disability and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Engage in problem solving with students, staff, faculty, parents and community.
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Residential Life and Housing.
Prior supervisory experience.
Knowledge and experience with student development programming.
Demonstrated oral and written communication.
Knowledge and experience with assessment strategies and planning.
Experience and sensitivity in working with diverse groups.
Ability to serve as a role model and mentor for students and staff.

Masters Degree in Education, Student Personnel or related field required; 4-7 years professional residence hall experience; prior supervisory experience; knowledge and experience with student development programming. Demonstrated communication and written skills; experience in working with diverse groups.
